The worldwide incidence of Sudden Cardiac Arrest may be as high as 1 for 1,000. In Europe, Sudden Cardiac Arrest represents 700 000 deaths per year, and 40 000 in France alone (that brings the numbers up to more than one sudden heart failure every 15 minutes).
Unfortunately we know that the majority of deaths occur while waiting for professional assistance to arrive on the scene. It is during that lapse of time, that action must be taken. Non-medical professional witnesses must learn to assess the situation, to call for help and to start Basic Life Support. Those first-aid reflexes will save the patient’s life. The survival rate rises significantly when trained witnesses perform Basic Life Support. |

Today in the European Union, one person dies every 3½ minutes from work-related causes. That's over 150,000 deaths per year as a result of either work-related accidents (8900) or occupational diseases (142000). On the basis of these figures and taking into account the level of medical risk at work as well as the evolution of our society, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work has made the following recommendation: « make Europe's workplaces safer, healthier and more productive ».

The use of AEDs is accessible to all and no longer only to medical and paramedical pros.
It is a proven fact that AEDs save lives. A short but complete training is necessary to understand how they work and how to use them. Ventricular Fibrillation is responsible for 80% of sudden heart failures. Ventricular fibrillation is an anarchic electrical activity of the heart which prevents it from accomplishing its pumping function correctly. The heart is no longer able to make the blood flow through the body. |
